Thanisandra Main Road
About
Revitalising Public Spaces, Thanisandra Main Road – Hegde Nagar Junction
As part of the Revitalising Public Spaces initiative, this proposal addresses the transformation of Thanisandra Main Road following the flyover construction and road widening at Hegde Nagar Junction, aiming to recover a clean, safe, pedestrian-oriented streetscape that still supports active commerce and everyday public life.
Pedestrian pathways are redesigned to serve students, vendors, shoppers, parents and commuters, with upgraded bus stops, auto stands, shaded waiting areas, benches and designated waiting zones near schools. Dedicated vendor spaces support local livelihoods, while drinking water points, public toilets, dustbins, street lighting and CCTV surveillance improve convenience, hygiene and safety.
Environmental and streetscape measures include percolation pits around existing trees, upgraded central dividers with local planting, bird perches and shaded seating beneath mature trees. Interactive street art near Hegde Nagar Public School, wall murals along 2nd Cross Road and a new roundabout, zebra crossings and improved footpaths outside Sampigehalli Police Station enhance pedestrian movement and community use, alongside the revival of 2nd Cross Road—currently a dump yard—through better amenities, streetscape upgrades and waste management.
