Prototype Shelter for Communities Affected by the Tsunami - 2

About

The Prototype Shelter for Tsunami Victims was developed as a full-scale demonstration project at Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore, for the Bamboo Society of India. Conceived to showcase the potential of bamboo as a disaster relief building material, the project demonstrated the construction of a prototype shelter intended for rapid deployment in post-disaster situations.

The 100 sq.ft. prototype highlighted bamboo as a lightweight, economical and practical construction material capable of providing quick and durable shelter for communities affected by natural disasters. Serving as a demonstration rather than a rehabilitation project, it introduced the construction methodology and application of bamboo housing systems to professionals, institutions and the public.

Executed by Manasaram Architects with Aditi Constructions, the demonstration reinforced the feasibility of bamboo-based emergency housing systems while promoting sustainable and affordable construction technologies for disaster management.
