Srirampura Railway Crossing (Revitalizing Public Spaces)

About

This proposal forms part of the broader Revitalising Public Spaces initiative, which seeks to strengthen the social and ecological character of Jakkur and surrounding neighbourhoods of North Bengaluru. Using the framework developed by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), it reimagines underused spaces around the former Srirampura Railway Crossing as equitable, climate-responsive community assets.

The construction of an underpass connecting Hegde Nagar Road and KV Jayaram Road disrupted safe pedestrian access between the villages of Srirampura, Venkateshpura, Sampigehalli and Jakkur; the proposal responds with redesigned traffic movement, new roundabouts, zebra crossings, improved junctions and accessible pedestrian pathways to restore everyday connectivity and public safety. It also revives the BBMP playground and adds an open park with multipurpose activity zones, children’s play areas, open-air fitness spaces and shaded seating. Designated vendor zones support livelihoods, while bamboo plantations act as green buffers along the railway corridor and roads. Upgraded public infrastructure—streetlights, bus stops, drinking water points, public toilets, stormwater drains, drain covers, CCTV, signage, murals and public art—together aim to create a safer, more inclusive and dignified public realm.
